General Summary:
Creates, obtains, evaluates, coordinates and distributes 3-dimensional BIM models for use by estimating, purchasing and operations using but not limited to BIM modeling software such as Autodesk Fabrication CADmep, Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Obtains electronic files from A/E firm to create background drawings.
- Prepares ductwork and piping drawings for field coordination as per accepted industry construction standards and project specification in consultation with field foreman and project manager.
- Performs field surveys when necessary to determine actual field conditions to ensure ductwork, piping and equipment layout will fit the given building structure.
- Coordinates ductwork and piping layouts with other trades on the project to ensure proper fit (plumbing, electrical, fire protection, etc.)
- Represents Hooper in matters of coordination of HVAC work with various trades to achieve quality and efficient installation.
- Assists project managers/engineers in opening electronic files received from architects/engineers and updates as directed.
- Prepares complete layout of HVAC systems under the supervision of project engineer(s) or as per engineered documents.
- Work with foreman and shop personnel in the production of shop level drawings for use in prefabrication.
- Obtains marked-up drawings from field foreman to create as-built drawings for project closeout and internal records.
- Perform calculations for system design (sizing, CFM requirements, and other calculations as necessary).
- Complete quantity surveys and generate cost reports.
- Stays current with new technologies and techniques affecting the field of BIM/CADD.
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Two year Associate degree in drafting-design or 4 years equivalent experience in mechanical trades.
- Extensive knowledge of and direct support experience in required software (Autodesk AutoCAD Fabrication, Navisworks and Revit).
- Minimum two years experience in developing both 2D and 3D drawings.
- Ability to read and understand details, plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of construction nomenclature and techniques (means and methods).
- Knowledge of current prefabrication means and methods.
- Good analytical and problem solving, verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to work effectively within team environment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Revit User or professional Certification.
Scope Data (budget accountability, operating revenues, organizational unit responsibility, number of employees supervised, other pertinent numeric data):
- Works and interacts in team environment with 30 - 40 personnel.
- Designs approximately 20 - 30 jobs per year.
Description of physical working environment:
- Works in normal office environment from a sitting position with a computer. Repetitive typing and computer use required. Regular bending, twisting, and light lifting is common.
- Makes job site visits as necessary requiring driving personal vehicle.
- Works on field construction site in all kinds of weather to survey site conditions and resolve coordination issues with the trades.
- Ability to climb up and down ladders and steps on site is required.
